With reference to your letter of the 23rd ultimo,

No.13111 asking that a Gunboat may be placed at the

disposal of Mr J.H.Stewart Lookhart, C.M.G., who will visit

the territory at Hong Kong about to be leased to Her

Majesty by the Chinese Government; I am commanded by my

Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to state, for the

information of Mr Secretary Chamberlain, that a telegram has

been received from the Commander-in-Chief, China, stating
